The Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs offers two programs for people who are interested in working as certified Homemakers or Personal Care Homemakers. They are free to residents of Massachusetts.
Homemakers help with shopping, cooking, laundry, and cleaning tasks.
Personal Care Homemakers help with bathing, dressing, hair care, and assisting clients to get around.
Most frequently, people in these jobs work with the elderly.
The Homemaker course is done entirely online at your own pace, and usually takes 25-35 hours to complete.
The Personal Care Homemaker course includes the same content as the Homemaker course, plus an additional 10 hours of hands-on practice working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Courses can be taken in either English, Spanish, Haitian-Creole, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Russian.
